About the Artist
Alan Arthurs studied Fine Art at Falmouth College and Loughborough gaining a B A (Hons). He became a gardener and painted for festivals including huge mystic and sci-fi hot dog hoardings. In 1986 he started painting stage equipment in psychedelic ultra-violet paints for the band Hawkwind and stayed with them for ten years, progressing from back stage crew to security chief and stage manager at venues in the US and Europe. He combined this with being foreman on the bands farm where he fought weeds, tended livestock, painted album covers and designed T - shirts, programmes and promotional artwork.
Alan then gained a Bsc (Hons) in Botany and Forestry and worked on forest nursery schemes and promotional art to disguise an oil pipeline through Snowdonia National Park, wildflower verge mowing regimes and murals for the Chelsea Flower Show.
He is now based near Charlestown and " still paints, still weeds gardens and probably always will ! "
