Braken is a handsome pixie made from recycled fabrics. Braken is waterproof so can be displayed both indoor or outside.

About the artist.

Karen Williams is a sculptor with a focus on using recycled material, in a unique & fun way. Her sculptures are different from what most people think of as traditional outdoor sculpture. She works with wire & a variety of recycled material, including old jeans, t-shirts, etc. getting much joy from transforming discarded items into a work of art. The material is impregnated with a special resin that amalgamates & fortifies the material, which when it dries hardens & waterproofs the sculptures making them suitable for both indoor & outdoor use all year round. They are equally happy sat on your mantelpiece or sat in the garden. Although you may imagine the sculptures to be delicate they are in fact quite robust.

Karen hand paints the sculptures to look like metal, paying great attention to detail – for example under the faeries’ dresses they are all wearing large pants, no knickerless faeries  here!

No moulds or patterns are used so each piece is unique, and takes between 15 – 20 hours to make.

Karen has been working full time as a sculptor since 2002 has sold her work through galleries all over the UK.

She lives in Long Eaton and works from her garden studio, kept company by her wirehaired dachshund.
