"The Lonely Pine Tree, Charlestown” is an original acrylic Ink and mixed media painting on paper by Cornwall based artist Liz Hackney. This lone tree hangs on to the cliffside through all weathers just above the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site on the south coast of Cornwall, which is well known as a filming location for the BBC TV period drama series Poldark.
Liz is selling this painting to raise money for St. John’s Hospice in Moggerhanger where her sister Suzanne Sharp passed away in 2016. Liz struggled to paint for a long time after losing her sister and this was the first piece she completed when she returned to painting. Suzanne used to raise money for cancer charities by taking part in marathons with her running friends known as the “Jellybabes” and her friends continue to raise money in her memory. This painting was completed in May at the same time that the “Jellybabes” were completing a marathon in a week for charity. Liz couldn’t take part in the marathon so instead when the painting sells Liz will make a personal donation to the value of the painting to the fundraising page set up in her sisters name, the Suzanne Sharp-Bayliss Memories Page.
